Revisit some old places, get your Boomerang replacement

Head to Kakariko Village

When you grow up, Shiek tells you that you need to get something in Kakariko Village. So, head out of Hyrule Castle (past some zombies), and turn left to go towards Kakariko Village.

You can optionally grab a Pocket Egg from the Cucco / Chicken lady if you see her on the way to the Kakariko Graveyard. This starts the Biggoron’s Sword Quest.

Go to the Kakariko Graveyard

When you get to Kakariko Village, go to the graveyard. Go to the left side of the graveyard, and pull the grave on the very left, with flowers in front of it.

Jump in the hole that appears. You have now entered the gravekeeper’s grave.

Race Dampe to get the Hookshot

He wants to race you, so you have to follow him until he stops. Try not to get hit by the fire he drops.

Avoid the flames and don’t bother rolling for the first race
For the first race (to get the Hookshot), I would recommend NOT rolling. You can complete the race without rolling, and usually rolling leads to running into fire or bonking yourself on walls. If you come in at a certain time, he will give you the hookshot. Later, you can come back and race and try to get under 1 minute, to get a Heart Piece.

Now leave the Grave, first by playing the Song of Time to move a giant stone blocking the way.

Get the Song of Storms

Now you will come up into the windmill in Kakariko Village. Don’t jump down first, I’d recommend jumping to the middle platform, and then jumping to the right side to grab the Heart Piece.

After getting the heart piece in the windmill, be sure to talk to the guy inside. If you talk to him, and then take out your Ocarina, he will teach you the Song of Storms.

Now that you have your Hookshot, you’re able to access the Forest Temple. If you already know Epona’s Song, you can stop by Lon Lon Ranch to get Epona first. If you don’t have Epona’s Song, you will need to defeat the Forest Temple before going back in time to learn Epona’s Song. Either way, we’ll get Epona in this walkthrough after the Forest Temple. Onwards to the Lost Woods!
